The BB series is an affordable and space-saving addition to our range. When the need does not require precise positioning or high torques – but rather easy assembly, low weight and reliable operation – then Mekanex’s new BB series is a perfect fit. This compact bevel gear is a welcome addition to the range and meets the requirements in many simpler applications where previous alternatives have been too advanced or expensive.
– The BB series fills a gap where our previous gears have sometimes been a bit overkill, says Janne Kalenius, product manager at Mekanex.
– It is well suited for simpler applications where you have small motors, lower forces and perhaps even manual operation.
With its compact design and competitive price level, the BB series offers a flexible solution for many types of machine designs.
– We see that many customers choose the BB series for simpler controls or movements, where precision does not need to be at the highest level, says Janne.
– This can involve raising or lowering a platform, opening a damper or rotating something at low speed.
Flexible and easy to install
The gear is made of aluminum, which provides light weight and good heat dissipation. The lifetime lubricated design means that it is maintenance-free – and thanks to several mounting holes, both threaded and plain, it can be installed in several directions.
Multiple variants – multiple possibilities
The BB series is available in three main versions:
- BB503U – hollow shaft in/out
- BBIS503BC – solid shaft in/out
- BBIS503U – solid shaft in, hollow shaft out
You can also choose between two or three shafts and several fixed gear ratios:
1:1, 1:1.5, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 – which makes the series very flexible. They are also available in versions with hollow shaft, solid shaft or a combination.
Technical performance
Regardless of the gear ratio chosen, the BB series offers reliable power transmission at varying speeds. The table below shows the torque and power for the different gear ratios:
| Gear ratio | 50 rpm | 100 rpm | 200 rpm | 400 rpm | 800 rpm |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | 25,4 Nm / 0,13 kW | 21,3 Nm / 0,22 kW | 17,9 Nm / 0,38 kW | 15,1 Nm / 0,63 kW | 12,7 Nm / 1,06 kW |
| 1:1,5 | 25,8 Nm / 0,14 kW | 21,7 Nm / 0,23 kW | 18,3 Nm / 0,39 kW | 15,4 Nm / 0,64 kW | 13,0 Nm / 1,09 kW |
| 1:2 | 22,4 Nm / 0,11 kW | 18,1 Nm / 0,19 kW | 15,8 Nm / 0,33 kW | 13,3 Nm / 0,55 kW | 11,2 Nm / 0,94 kW |
| 1:3 | 22,4 Nm / 0,11 kW | 18,1 Nm / 0,19 kW | 15,8 Nm / 0,33 kW | 13,3 Nm / 0,55 kW | 11,2 Nm / 0,94 kW |
| 1:4 | 15,5 Nm / 0,08 kW | 13,0 Nm / 0,14 kW | 11,0 Nm / 0,23 kW | 9,2 Nm / 0,38 kW | 7,8 Nm / 0,65 kW |
What is a bevel gear?
A bevel gear is used to transmit power between two shafts at an angle – usually 90°. The most common types are based on bevel gears and are available in several gear ratios. For those who need more advanced solutions, Mekanex also offers:
- Spiral cut gears – quieter running and higher torque
- Stainless steel models – for e.g. the food industry
- Hypoid gears – for applications with offset shafts
The Mekanex range covers shaft diameters from 4 to 60 mm, torques up to 2400 Nm, and gear ratios up to 1:4 – including custom-made variants.
Range of products
In addition to the BB series, Mekanex offers a wide range of bevel gearboxes:
| Model type | Shaft diameter | Gear ratios | Torque |
|---|---|---|---|
| WGMO | Ø6 mm | 1:1, 1:2, 2:1 | up to 60 Ncm |
| WGXO (stainless) | Ø4 mm | 1:1 | up to 60 Ncm |
| PV | Ø5-18 mm | 1:1 | up to 310 Ncm |
| Z | Ø8-35 mm | 1:1, 2:1 | up to 100 Nm |
| Z SS (stainless) | Ø15 mm | 1:1, 2:1 | up to 16 Nm |
| W | Ø18-60 mm | 1:1-1:4 | up to 2419 Nm |
All models can be customized with different shaft and seal material choices, painted housings and food-grade lubricants.
